Bernice’s initial passion for business and property marketing has established a solid
foundation for her entrepreneurial achievements. Known for turning core ideas into
reality by building cohesive, collaborative teams, she energises and motivates those
around her. Her talent for connecting with people and inspiring them enables the
team to overcome challenges and attain both individual excellence and collective
success.
As Co-Founding Director at Mercer & Cooper, leveraging 30 years’ experience in building businesses within multiple sectors of the property industry, Bernice brings a valuable, broad-based and substantial insight to the direction and management of our group.
Her esteemed international career focused on brokering architectural design contracts for high end residential houses and marketing land sub-divisions. Bernice’s primary national interests began in Sydney 25 years ago marketing multi-staged and bespoke development projects for some of Australia’s most acclaimed architects and developers.
Her experience in property development deepened as she focused on acquiring properties in areas undergoing rezoning to high-density residential. This concentration refined her insights into property development, allowing her to offer customised investment properties to various advisory sectors within the industry.
Eleven years into her career, Bernice met Matt Mercer, and together they co-founded a financial planning firm on the Gold Coast in 2006. They went on to establish a franchise model that embedded financial planning services within accounting firms. It was here that Bernice developed a property advisory model centred around financial planning. As head of property investment advice, she led and managed a team of contracts managers and property investment advisers.
After selling their financial planning business, Matt and Bernice founded Mercer & Cooper in 2016, initially concentrating on property investment advice. Three years later, they expanded into developing their own projects and land subdivisions. subdivisions.
Six years after founding Mercer & Cooper, they expanded the group to include real estate sales and property management, in addition to their existing focus on property investment advice and development.
Bernice thrives on engagement, change, and opportunity, which complements Matt's visionary and pioneering approach. She serves as a stabilising force, ensuring a cohesive strategy during periods of change and growth. The group gains from Bernice’s extensive expertise as she spearheads marketing, sales, and the expansion and well-being of the Mercer & Cooper team.
As a seasoned property investment adviser, Bernice dedicates part of her time to coaching our advisory team and refining our advice model to ensure a strategic and seamless investment experience for clients. Additionally, she collaborates with the leaders of the property management and operations teams to streamline processes and enhance client communication.
